BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE

The butterfly, one symbol of how the program works.
This poem will tell a story of The butterfly, its quirks!

Now butterflies don't just happen There's a process don't
you know. They start out very different Their process very slow.

They start as caterpillars, most are not a pleasant sight Their life
is very focused They mostly hold on tight.

Them something wondrous happens They start to spin a silk.
They surround themselves completely in cocoon, the shade of milk.

In cocoon of warmth and safety Changes happen like a dream.
Hidden from the outer world Where only God has seen

Time passes very gently, and Then one magic day, The buttefly
awakens, takes flight, as if to pray.

The magic of the butterfly is here for you and me I wlll explain in
detail and with me I hope you see.

Before the program happens we are like the little grub our life
is out of balance Our focus like a stub.

We thought the life was limited And there was little hope
that we could face another day We thought the enemy was dope.

We raced around in panic Back and forth, we took a stance We were
in such agony Begging God for one more chance

Those days we all remember The Pain, the loneliness Our stories
are so similar As we share and some confess

But one day by Grace we were guided to a magic Nar-Anon Room
It was a sweet beginning where a recovery miracle would bloom

And so like the caterpillar The program spun a place Where we
could bring our sadness And learn of God's sweet grace.

We listen to the others, we didn't think it could be true Would they
really like me? If the truth of me they knew.

But the warmth of Nar-Anon meetings Were like a cocoon of gentle
care They taught us how to love ourselves Taught us once again to dare.

Openly we shared our grief, proving How the program wins Sharing
all our secrets, even admitting some past sins

We share our daily struggle The stories, so much our own Being here
we realize we were no longer all alone.

One day at a time, our slogan Living in the magic now Learning
understanding is so very clearly how.

Our faith is very evident and We share if from the heart Our faith will
bring serenity right from the very start.

Easy does it not easy, but we do it the Nar-Anon way Let go ,
Let God is evident in each and every day.

The magic of the program is as simple as can be If you work it daily,
you too can be set free.

So like the gentle butterfly, as it flies through freedom's gate Fly with
me in fellowship make Nar-anon your fate.

Thank God for all your blessing. Take time each day to pray, I promise
you recovery, if in these rooms you stay.

That is one of the reasons that I love the butterfly. A woman in my home group bought me a butterfly or something shaped like one for every year I have been in recovery. Every one remembered the person who came through the doors who was very low in spirit, isolated and introverted and not in touch with those around her, who worked the program and learned how to fly. That is why I called the group I started "Freedom of Recovery." The butterfly means transformation and freedom for me.
