T is for Thanksgiving.

Each day that I am alive and sober is a day of Thanksgiving! I remain vigilant. Today I am an alcoholic. Tomorrow will be no different. I have a daily reprieve from drinking. One Day At A Time is not just a catchy slogan, it is the way of life for this alcoholic.

U is for Understanding. When I worked the Steps and applied them to my life, I found myself. Through this understanding, I was able to understand who my God was and what He meant to me. It was up to me to build a workable relationship with Him. I found that God was an old tape. He was who other people told me He was. I had to make my relationship personal. He was so much bigger than I had understood before.

V is for Value. I had to learn to value my life. Because of my journey, I thought I was worthless. I had to recognize that I was not my disease, I could change my dis-ease and recover from that hopeless state of mind and body.

God doesn't make no junk. We are very precious in His Sight.

W is for Watch

Watch out for the RED FLAGS...things that give excuses for poor behavior and inevitable relapse. I am thankful that I have to tools of recovery that I use to recognize these Red Flags that come up. I know how to handle them and prevent myself for doing things I will regret. It keeps me from relapse.

X is for 'Xtra Blessings. The gifts of recovery are priceless. How can you begin to price on forgiveness, peace of mind, the ability to make decisions, the courage and strength to let go and let God, and so much more. When we work the Step, we heal and become whole, when we apply them to our lives.

Those little things that my seem unimportant add up and show us that our God is working in our life, doing for us what we couldn't do alone. We have a disease of perception. No need for those 'Xtremes in our lives. No more hissy fits, no more temper tantrums, no more drinking to someone else's health. We can recover from that hopeless state of mind and body.

Z is for Zero. As it says in the AA literature, our score card read 'Zero' when we walked through the doors. Many of us were left with nothing, while other managed to get off the downward spiral before they lost everything.

I was a step off the streets when I found AA. I know I was empty, fragmented, and I wanted the world to stop so I could get off. I am so grateful that I found AA and now I don't get zeros, but pluses and blessing as I climbed up the ladder to a healthier way of living.
