Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:17
The more I thought about the above verse, the more I was convinced St. Paul had given impractical advice. Finally, I decided to take up my question with the Lord. I began to see that Paul's admonition called for a special attitude. It was inevitable during a busy working day that my mind would be occupied or obsessed with worldly tasks. But what about my heart? Couldn't I keep a prayer locked in my heart at all times? Finally I was ready to give it a try. At the start of each business day, I'd say a prayer. Then phone calls would pour in, and correspondence would pile up, and meetings would crowd my day. But even when I couldn't say a prayer with my lips, I carried one in my heart. And—in an attitude of prayer—I was sustained through a busy, harried workday and on into the entire week.
