As Vital as Food
God's Word For Today
As Vital as Food
Read John 4:1 through 5:47
“What do you want to do when you grow up?”
It’s a question we ponder all through childhood. Some kids change their minds repeatedly as they learn more about the world. Some have one idea from the time they’re very young.
As we hit adulthood we like having a sense of job security—not just for financial reasons, but through our vocation we often find a sense of where we fit in the world. Sometimes we stumble around to find focus for our lives, but purpose is something we all seek.
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work” (John 4:34).
Jesus knew His purpose. Finishing God’s work was so vital to Jesus that this goal is what kept Him going.
What a challenge for those of us who are Christians. Can we honestly say doing God’s will and finishing His work is as important to us as breathing and eating? Are we too focused on the things of this world to be an effective worker for God?
Challenge for Today: Analyze your life and see how your purpose in life aligns with God’s purpose for you.
Quicklook: John 4:31–38
