When All Else Fails
When All Else Fails
Your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:5 RECOMMENDED READING John 21:1-14 Who hasn't had this thought flash through their mind on Christmas Eve or the night before a child's birthday: "When all else fails, read the directions"? It was bad enough when figuring things out involved mostly nuts and bolts and a couple of simple tools. Nowadays, we have endless levels of digital commands to figure out when it comes to electronic gadgets. It seems the more complicated things get, the more determined man becomes in his effort to figure it out by himself. And that holds true for our spiritual life as well. The more difficult our circumstances, the more determined we are to figure it out on our own without having to call upon God. What we fail to realize is that such times are part of our training, that God allows us to get to the end of our ability just so we will learn to call upon Him. That was certainly part of the original disciples' training--like when they fished all night with no "luck" until they listened to Jesus' advice and filled their boat with fish. If you are nearing the end of your rope, maybe it's time to call upon the Lord. There is great victory in realizing the limits of your own ability--and the limitlessness of His. Turning Point One of the best ways to get back on your feet is to first get on your knees. Unknown

So often we say no to recovery, because we aren't willing to do what it takes to stay sober.
So many went to mental institutions, recovery program (which helped me start but when I left, the work just began), a religious zealot no matter what faith you have and what you believe. I tried my way for 8 years, I could stop but couldn't stay stopped. It was only when I found the spiritual aspect of the 12 Step programs that I was able to stay sober, one day at a time. I often tell people, I don't want to know who God is, because I might stop looking for Him/Her. God is as He reveals Himself in today. When all else fails, I need to get out of the way and allow my God to work through me, instead of around me.
