Default Thought For Today - May

Accumulating Inner Peace

Accumulate lots and lots of inner peace. As a result of accumulating, inner peace is readily accessible and available when and where you need it.

If, for whatever reason, you lose a little bit of your inner peace, it's OK – you already have a stock of inner peace accumulated within you. So just make sure you top up what you've lost.

Strong or Hard Hearted?

We need to be strong-hearted to face the many difficult situations in our life, but not hard-hearted where we do not feel compassion or care.

Toughen up without becoming hard-hearted. Be compassionate and caring without draining your emotional strength. Then you'll be warm and
strong-hearted in the face of any situation.

Are you Rushing?

Will rushing help you to achieve things faster? Often an attitude of rushing simply leaves us drained, exhausted and breathless. Remember, ‘slow and steady wins the race.’ Use patience to achieve more.

Determination

Determination brings the strength to continue, the steadiness to succeed, and the wisdom to slip past difficulties undisturbed.

Step In, Step Back

When it comes to relationships, both personal and professional ones, are you good at knowing when to step in and when to step back?

For relationships to grow and thrive:
- step in and support, help, guide, share….
- step back and give people space to discover and do things themselves

This week, get better at knowing when to get involved and when to get out of the way.

Procrastinating on Housework

Ever procrastinate on your housework? Because it’s not urgent, you don’t feel like doing it or you’re too exhausted...? Doing something takes less time than procrastinating about it.

Have to do the ironing? Catch up on your favorite radio programs. Vacuuming? Think of it as an exercise. Dusting or cleaning the bathroom? Give yourself a deadline of 30 minutes to get it all done. Simply motivate yourself.

Think About You

We all care about what other people think about us.

But really, do people think about us, that much? Why not care more about what you think of you.

Actually, what you think of you is more important than what others think of you.

Taking It Seriously

Do you have a tendency to take life and yourself a little too seriously? Now, life is no laughing matter but life does have a sense of humor.

Find the humor and have a good laugh - at life and at yourself. Not as a way to avoid the serious issues, but only when appropriate, of course!

Getting Through Tough Times

When times are tough it's easy to feel a sense of lacking, isn't it? But the feeling of lacking creates unnecessary anxiety.

Instead, consciously choose to feel abundant. Feeling abundant not only relieves your anxiety but also empowers you to be more resourceful and proactive in how you get through the tough times.

Remember to Forget, Forget to Remember

All too easily, we remember things we’d rather forget, and forget things we really should remember. Consciously, work out what matters and what doesn't. Know ‘what to remember’ and ‘what to forget’. Then pay attention to what you choose to replay and revisit in your mind. So, what will you remember (your aim, focus, goals…)? And what will you forget (past hurts, worries, irritations…)

Reserve Your Discipline

Are you disciplined in certain areas of your life but not others? Maybe we only have a limited supply of discipline and maybe we're using it all up.

How about conserving and reserving your discipline, for just a few things - things that matter, things that make a big difference.

Do This, Before You Eat

Whatever you give attention to, you give energy to.

Energize what you eat and drink. How? Just before you start eating or drinking, give what you eat and drink a moment of your attention, and you'll energize it!

Settling the Unsettled

Something keeping your mind unsettled?

Sometimes what works best is doing something else, something active, and as a result, the mind settles down on its own. Sometimes you have to really reflect on and resolve what's unsettling you, and settle the unsettled. Sometimes you just have to give things time, and settle in, into the unsettling.

Play Your Roles

Shakespeare said, "All the world's a stage...". So, if we're all "merely players", that is, actors, then understand the difference between who you are and the roles you play.

Understand the difference and you'll make it easier for yourself to:
- switch between different roles in your day
- adapt, when your roles change
- clarify what your roles require and play them well
