Surprise yourself

Some of the most interesting and valuable experiences are the ones you don’t expect. Surprises can bring into your life good things you never knew were there.

It’s comfortable to stick with the same old routine, but comfort is overrated. Choose to regularly jump out of that routine, and get yourself in situations where you can be surprised.

Learn to look forward to the difficult, the unusual and the unknown. When you’re not sure what you’ll find, you’re more likely to find something that will bring new richness to your life.

You are superbly able to be curious, innovative and adaptable, so make use of those powerful abilities. Step out of the comfortable box that houses everything you already know, and enjoy exploring unfamiliar territory.

If you were a typical child, you loved surprises. Make it a point to get some of that magic back.

Go where you can surprise yourself. And experience firsthand just how fascinating and rich your life can be.

Always more

You have more strength than you know. Start to make use of that strength, to expect more of yourself, and you’ll begin to find how much is really there.

You have more stories than you realize. Begin to offer those stories, in ways helpful and congenial, and you’ll understand how rich and profound they are.

You are wealthy beyond any level you have ever imagined. Open your eyes to the value in all that surrounds you, and live the joyful, creative reality of that wealth.

Within your life is an ever-glowing treasure, resonating with all of life while also being uniquely you. Allow that gentle glow to spark into a brilliant flame, lighting the universe in its own beautiful way.

You have more resources, skills, experience and capacity to love than you have yet discovered. Focus your life, genuinely and passionately on a meaningful purpose, and let all that goodness pour forth.

There is always more to know, more to do, more to live and more to give. Experience the matchless joy of allowing it all to unfold through you.

Be amazed and keep going

Life can be amazing, so by all means be amazed. But don’t be so amazed that it immobilizes you.

Be amazed at the possibilities, at all the great things you can do. Then get beyond your amazement and get busy actually doing.

Be amazed at what others have achieved, at what you yourself have done, and at the beauty the universe constantly proffers. Then find something new and great and wonderful to do with it all.

Life is amazing and you can make it even more so. Be amazed, yet don’t ever let yourself be satisfied with mere amazement.

Drink in the wonder and beauty of life. Let it all inspire you to create greater beauty.

The journey is long, worthwhile, fulfilling and amazing. Be amazed, and keep going.

The sooner you start

Taking action and doing the difficult work are not what get you down. Delaying, procrastinating and avoiding action are what get you down.

The way forward is to do something positive and useful. Do something, and remind yourself for the ten thousandth time what a joy it is to make a difference.

When you know it must be done, and still you don’t do it, your own disappointment in yourself grows with every passing moment. Put a stop to that disappointment by putting yourself into action.

As difficult and complicated as it may be, the task is never as bad as the avoidance of it. Just start, just keep going, and just get it done.

Enjoy the experience of putting your skills to work. Enjoy the sense of purpose that results from making your time count for something.

Drink in the satisfaction of turning what you must do into what you have done. The sooner you start, the better it will feel.

Where do you find happiness?

Where do you find happiness? The only place you ever find happiness is where you are.

Happiness is not in some far off, fondly imagined time or place or situation. The happiness you enjoy is the happiness you choose to enjoy in the here and now.

You possess the very real ability to be happy just as you are. When you utilize that ability, when you choose happiness, you inject positive power into everything you do.

Are you disappointed, frustrated, feeling ineffective and unappreciated? Choose to be happy, and feel how quickly that all changes.

Being happy for no reason, or even when there are compelling reasons not to be, is not naive. It is a shrewd and effective way to energize your life.

Go ahead and empower yourself with happiness. Be happy with your situation, and it will most definitely improve, because you will improve it.

Energy of dissatisfaction

Precisely because dissatisfaction is so uncomfortable, it energizes your life. When you are not satisfied with the way things are, in that feeling of dissatisfaction is the energy to change.

You can tap into that energy to change yourself, or the situation, or both. In every case, you are looking directly at an opportunity for significant improvement.

Experiencing what you don’t want can drive you to create what you do want. The next time that happens, jump at the opportunity.

Take hold of the energy of your dissatisfaction. Immerse your awareness in the focus, in the drive, in the determination it gives you.

Then look out at the world with joy, with gratitude and with love for all that is. See the possibilities in a new, empowering light, and let them push you into action.

Feel your dissatisfaction, and resolve its discomfort by growing, building, creating, by becoming smarter, wiser, more capable and generous. In the energy of your dissatisfaction is your opportunity to uplift the whole world.

Too good

You’re too good to let a single day of your life go to waste. You’re too good to let the time pass without packing as much great living into it as possible.

You’re too good to put toxic junk into your body, your thoughts and your awareness. You’re too good to be resentful or discouraged.

You hold the power of a unique and beautiful life in your hands. You see things no one else sees, and you have an obligation to make value and meaning out of what you see.

The possibilities are too good to ignore, or to run away from. With so many good things to do, it makes no sense to get caught up in empty or destructive pursuits.

The opportunity that is your life on this day is calling to you. That opportunity is too good to pass up.

Thousands of years of history, and your entire life to this point, have brought you where you are. Tap into that accumulated goodness, and transform it into new greatness.

Start the doing

Don’t be too smart for your own good. Don’t be too critical of your own work.

Prepare for what you intend to do, and plan how you will do it, but not to the point of obsession. Sooner rather than later, finish the planning and start the doing.

Even though you won’t get it perfect, focus all your energy on getting it done. Even though you may have your doubts, push on through them and keep going.

Achievement is never clean or linear. Great achievement is messy and inconvenient, daunting and often quite unpredictable, and it is worth all that.

You have great achievement within you, today, in this place, using what you have and what you know. What a shame it would be to never let that unique achievement see the light of day.

So get busy right now and begin to let it see the light of day, on this day. You have so much to give to life, and such exquisite fulfillment to savor from doing so.

Think, then do

Think, but don’t overthink. Consider the implications before you act, but don’t agonize and analyze so deeply that you fail to make anything happen.

Think, then do what you think about. You cannot solve every problem in advance, so accept that you’ll have to make some adjustments as you go along.

Figure out what you intend to do, but don’t hold yourself back while you figure it all out. Jump in and get started, and use your powerful mind in combination with your effective actions.

Stop fretting and worrying about what might or might not happen. Get busy and find out.

Commit to a course of well-considered action and then do everything in your power to honor your commitment. That’s the path to achievement.

Imagine, and then create real, live substance out of what you imagine. Think, act, live, and enjoy the richness of a positive, purposeful existence.

Some little something

There’s some little something you can do, some little change you can make today, that will make your life better. Go ahead, give yourself a positive gift, and do it.

There’s something you know you’ve been doing, or neglecting to do, that’s been holding you back. This is your opportunity to change it.

You don’t have to change the whole world to make a noticeable difference in your life. Even a small change in what you do can make a big improvement in the way you feel.

As comfortable as your old habit may be, it’s not taking you where you want to go. Very soon, you can be just as comfortable, and a whole lot more satisfied, with a new, more positive habit.

Life is what you make it, and all the little choices add up. Improve the quality of those choices, and you will improve the quality of your situation.

Get the moments of this day working in your favor by making more of your actions work in your favor. Improve some little something you do, and experience the power you have to change your life.

Tell yourself

Tell yourself something often enough, and it becomes truth for you. What are you telling yourself over and over again?

If you tell yourself again and again that you can’t do something, you’re never going to do it. Even when you are perfectly able, you can convince yourself you’re absolutely not.

As you look at your world and make your way through it, whatever you’re repeating to yourself will have significant consequences. That can be a big burden, or a grand opportunity.

There’s no benefit in deluding yourself to believe you have superhuman powers. Yet there’s great benefit in constantly reminding yourself of the real and accessible powers you do have.

You can think, you can act, and you can focus your actions toward a specific purpose. You can feel, understand, create, adapt to new situations, build, improve, love and enjoy.

When you think to yourself and talk to yourself, think of all the good you’ve done and all the good you can now do. Remind yourself, again and again, that you can, and you will.

Go ahead and start

It’s great to make detailed plans, but you can’t possibly figure out every detail in advance. Get going, keep going, with a clear destination always in mind, and you’ll discover how to make your way there.

Much of the value of any achievement comes from all the new things you learn along the way. So even if you’re not sure you’re ready to start, go ahead and start.

Embrace experience as your teacher. Welcome the challenges that will strengthen every part of you.

Speculation, pondering and learning from others all have their place. At some point, though, you must put it all into practice and work your own way to the goal you have chosen.

Make that point sooner rather than later. Give more of your life the benefit of your real-life experience.

Demolish your doubts with action. Go ahead, get started, and enjoy discovering how great you can do.

— Ralph Marston

Narrow the possibilities

Every restaurant has many different items on the menu, yet you have to choose one or two of those items in order to enjoy a good meal. Every day is filled with countless possibilities, and you must narrow down those possibilities if you are to get anything done.

If you attempt to do everything, your focus becomes scattered and diluted. And you end up doing very little.

Eating every item on the menu, if you could even do it, would make you miserable. Choosing wisely, sticking with your choices and seeing them through, creates a much more enjoyable experience.

The quality of your life is not based on the quantity of things you can stuff into it. The quality of your life comes from the love and attention and genuine joy you are able to give.

Don’t drive yourself crazy in a vain attempt to know everything, do everything, see everything and have everything. Instead, choose a few things at a time and enjoy giving depth and meaning to them.

Narrow the possibilities of each day down to the ones you can truly care about. Let go of the need for quantity, and find joy in the quality life you deserve.

— Ralph Marston

Create from what is there

Creativity is not making something out of nothing. Creativity is making meaning out of something.

The raw material of life and of creativity has always been present. In order to be creative, you don’t have to make anything materialize out of thin air.

Creativity is never out of reach because life’s abundance is always very much within reach. To be creative, take what is already there and apply it in a way that makes life richer and more enjoyable.

Whether you wish to create an object, an idea, a story, song, picture or experience, the ingredients are already present. Start with what you know, with what you have, add a lot of what you love, and you’ll create value.

Instead of waiting for a great idea to hit you, realize that you already are the great idea. Go with what feels good, interesting, useful, satisfying and fulfilling, and you’ll go far.

Creativity is your birthright, so claim it in every area of your life. Take what is there, add yourself to it, and live creatively every day.

Allow the best

Allow your world to be beautiful now. Allow your life to be rich and full and joyous.

There are infinite possibilities, and yet the ones you experience are the ones you allow. Make the choice now, and always, to allow the best.

Allow your thoughts to be positive and empowering. Allow your actions to move your life forward.

Allow your spirit to envision life at its very best for you and your whole world. Allow yourself to make that vision real in each moment and with each choice.

Don’t struggle to move yourself toward or away from what might or might not be. Instead, allow your life to unfold according to your highest vision.

The power to make a positive difference is always yours. Allow that power to flow through your life, creating magnificent, meaningful results.

— Ralph Marston
