Topic of the Week, words that begin with "O"
O is for an Open Mind. Open your mind to new ideas and concept. My best thinking got me to the doors of recovery. I was also told to not keep such an open mind that everything falls out of it.
Be open to changing people, places, and things that no longer serve you in today.

Open
Open your mind and your heart. Listen and learn. Take what you need and leave the rest. |

O is for Opinion. Everyone has one. Just because I have one, doesn't mean I have to express it. Not everyone asks for one, often given when uncalled for. Others aren't open to them, but I prefer it when someone shares their experience, strength, and hope with me. I don't have to agree, and we can agree to disagree, but I like the thought of looking at something from a broader point of view, it gives me options as to whether I use it or put it on the shelf in case I need it later.

O is for Obvious. It was obvious that all those other people had a problem, I was just fine!
F.I.N.E. (Frustrated, Insecure, Neurotic, and Emotional) It was obvious that if they just did what I told them to do, they would be just F.I.N.E. too. What wasn't obvious was my own defects of character and addictions. I was so busy pointing my finger at others, that I couldn't see the reflection coming back at me.

O is for On awakening say this prayer:
God, I thank you for the good night of rest. Considering my plans, please God, direct my thinking today. Divorce my thinking from self-pity, dishonesty, or self-seeking motives. To determine which course to take, allow me inspiration, intuitive thought or decisions. Allow me whatever I need to take care of my problems. Free me from self-will, allow your will be done for others as well as for myself. Allow me to realize I am not running the show, Thy will, not my will be done. Discipline me today, and allow me to realize there is action and more action, faith without works is dead. Help me trust in you, clean house, and help others. Amen. (AA pg. 86-88) |

O is for Others
Just for today, I will be honest with myself and others. Just for today, I will replace my negative sense of self with a positive concern for others. |

O is for Options. I do have an option, do I want to live or do I want to die. I no longer want to play Russian Roulette with my life. The only option to me is to stay clean and sober or I will die. If I picked up a cigarette, it would kill me faster than drugs and alcohol, so they are not an option for me today either.
