Default Working the 12 steps with others

Guys

I've just finished working the 12 steps and am looking to work with guys who identify as sex addicts.

I have been addicted to sex and porn for the better part of my life and now I have found a simple 12 step solution.

if you are serious about learning more message me...we can chat and see if this would be right for you

thanks for reading

David

Thank you for sharing David. I went to a meeting and was told I didn't qualify. Do you not find that the 12 Steps of AA are applicable to any addiction? All you have to do is substitute the word sex for alcohol. Most times, it is the alcohol that leads to the other addictions. Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I stole a glass of wine when I was ten and I looked for that "Awwww" feeling all of my life, I tried many things to find it and it got to a stage, that when I found it, I couldn't stop and was looking for more. I didn't have another drink until I was 17, and then again when I got married. They put me in the hospital at 16 and they gave me 'Valium' for my nervous disorder. I had to go for sexual assault counselling when I was 15 years sober, because of my addictions.

I wish you well on your journey.

Hey Jo

Depends on what you are looking to qualify for...there are many Sex addiction groups..

Sexaholics - SA
Sex addicts - SAA
sex and love addicts - SLAA

not sure what you didn't qualify for...I go to a CA meeting, it's an open meeting so they welcome me.

I know the SA meetings are all closed, and many of the SAA meeting are similar

I do substitute the word alcohol of your choice of addiction when working the 12 steps...because when our addiction take away our choice and makes our life unmanageable it doesn't matter anymore....we are all just as helpless without a higher power.

if you wanna chat just send me a pm and I would love to

D

Thank you for sharing. I went to CA for a while because that is the fellowship the ex-boyfriend went to. They welcomed me too. My "C" addictions are codeine, caffeine, control issues, chronic pain and fatigue, chocolate, computer, and more.

My drugs of choice when I was using were alcohol, prescription drugs, food, men, relationships, and busy/work. A drug is a drug. They are all symptoms of my disease, the problem was me, so the 12 Steps are applicable to all areas of my life.

Always looking for something outside of myself to make me feel better.

Any type of false dependency takes away from the freedom of not being bound to anything. If I have bondage to anything then I am a slave to that. In getting down to "causes and conditions" the journey for me is about learning about how I got here. Faulty thinking, coping and reacting to the world were at the root. I came into recovery with a severe mood disorder brought about by dependency. Even the AA "Big Book" talks about "instincts far exceeding their intended purpose." I love the phrase on our anniversary coins which reads "To Thine Own Self Be True." I was the problem and I am the solution. 12 step recovery challenged me and my beliefs sometimes in gentle and sometimes in not so gentle ways. Another relevant passage in our material talks about how some of us grew up with no love and some with too much love. The quality, serenity and contentment of my life is totally different than when I crawled into the halls many years ago. I identify with the person I heard at a meeting years ago that identified himself as a "slowly recovering alcoholic." Enjoying the journey, one day at a time.....

Me too! I was told that anything that stood between me and who my God would have me be in today, is my substitution and becomes my drug of choice.

Have always liked the saying, 'Free from the bondage of Self!"
