Default Real Presence

Real Presence

"My Father will love him, and my Father and I will come to him and live with him." - John 14:23

If God is a real presence in our lives, he must be much more than just an idea in our heads. Through prayer and meditation, we grow to sense God's love and to know that he is totally present to us. Through our attentiveness to God, we begin to experience that he is loving us and leading us as we live each day.

God's presence is always real, but our awareness of it comes and goes. Even in our moments of dryness and darkness when our awareness dims, God is totally present to us. The Muslims have a beautiful saying, "God is closer to you than your neck vein." Though God is always present to us, his presence grows more fruitful to the extent that we become aware of it. The ability to be aware is God's gift. Our task is to be open to the gift through a life receptive to God's presence, a receptivity that grows as we grow in silent expectation.

Lord, I ask for the perseverance to remain attentive to your presence. May I realize more clearly that you are the goal of my life.

Focus Your Day

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
God says that each of us is worth loving.
