In recovery, acceptance of self is seen through the humility of others we meet when we're new. Most of us need a good overhauling here. When it comes to liking ourselves most of us don't, and for good reason for this is where the illness has does the greatest harm to us. It is how it gets us to off ourselves, which goes against our own instinct of survival. When we work the steps we find, we're not as bad as we once thought we were, nor as good, which is humbling and brings out in us the humility we had encountered and seen in others. This is key to our success in recovery because what we need to succeed, is and always has been part of us. By doing the steps we begin to accept and like ourselves again, which allows us to just want to be ourselves again, and not want to be someone else any longer. This restores that damaged instinct of survival, which makes it so that we're no longer on that path of self destruction.
