It's not all that unusual to hear someone who's been in recovery for a while say they wish they had gotten here sooner than they did. Some of us will actually then go on beating ourselves up over this fact, like somehow we had control over this when it's plain for everyone to see if we look around that none of us ever do, and that this is a matter of timing that's out of our hands for all of us. Most of us at first will usually think that the time is not right for us to be in recovery because we're not ready to be in it when it presents itself in all of our lives. The only thing that any of us will ever have control over in all of this, is whether or not we're going to stay in recovery and we all do decide this ourselves. But what has brought all of us here to recovery none of us will ever have any say in this, and it happens exactly when it's supposed to for all of us. What we will all want to keep in mind when deciding for ourselves if we want to stay here in recovery is that it's probably not best for all of us to be messing with the hand of providence that has brought all of us here and is allowing all of us to make this choice for ourselves. For all of us this could be our one and only chance at being here in recovery, and a lot of us will never even get the chance that we have to be able to decide to be here in recovery because they are gone and no longer with us and were never even given the same chance as us.
