Default Topic of the Week, Words that begin with the letter "P"

P is for Principles. Practice the principles in all your affairs.

Quote:

The more I used the principles in my daily life, the more I learned to live life on life's terms. AA is a program meant for alcoholic's but the principles behind the Steps are used in many other programs.

Looking at the Principles Of The Steps,

1. Admission of powerlessness. / Honesty***
2. Reliance on a Higher Power. / Hope
3. Total surrender to God. / Faith
4. Moral inventory. / Courage
5. Admission of the exact nature of our wrongs. / Integrity
6. Commitment to total change. / Willingness
7. Prayer for wholeness. / Humility
8. Total willingness to amend. / Brotherly Love
9. Making amends where possible. / Reconciliation
10. Continuing inventory. /Perseverance
11. Prayer meditation, leading to improved conscious contact with God. / Awareness of God
12. Spiritual awakening, carrying the message and practicing the principles in all our affairs. / Service.

***My sponsor and I believed the principles of Step One is Honesty, Surrender, and Acceptance in order to work the Step 100%

P is for Practice. This is a program of practice, practice, practice. We get to practice the principles of the program each new day.

P is for Power. When we reach out and as for help, we are empowered to do what we need to do for our recovery.

Don`t get stuck in problems, think of them as challenges that we can overcome. Prayer works, focus on the solution instead of the problem.

P is for Prayer. It works! It works in the wide open spaces and in the close corners. When in doubt, pray. If you don't know the words, don't work God is accepting and forgiving. I personally believe a thought is a prayer, so be careful for what you pray for.

P is for Play. Allow the Inner Child come out to play. Did that child, teenager, and young adult able to have fun and play? As Rule #62 days (4th Tradition), don't take yourself so seriously. Recovery is serious business, but we need to have fun and enjoy it. We have been given a second chance at life, LIVE and let live.

I use to talk to myself in the third person. I would say, "that is a JoAnne thing," and "JoAnne, I can't believe you did/say that!"

P is for Pledge. We pledge allegiance to the flag. Why not do the same toward the program. Make a daily pledge to stay clean and sober, just for today, no matter what. No matter how we perceive things, they are generally as not as bad as they seem. Know that your God is all Powerful.

P is for Priority. What is your priority? If you want to stay clean and sober, your recovery must come first, ahead of people, places, and things. Without you, you have nothing. You are important. You are worthy. You are a priority.

Q is for Quell. What do I do to quell the cravings? Pause and say a prayer. You can't wear out the Serenity Prayer. I was told you can't crave unless you take a taste. It is generally our obsession that overtakes our thinking and our mind can't think of anything else. If you want to quit, pray for the willingness to be willing to quit. Quell the voice of your addiction, by reaching out and asking for help.

R is for Reality. If we can't face it, we hide under the rug of denial. So often when we can't see it, it is not there. As a friend and I shared when we had 3 years sober, reality sucks! Because now you know and you need to do something about it or you will be filled with the old guilt and remorse, which could take us back out.

Quote:

~ I'm Really Not An Addict! ~

I'm really not an addict,
There is no need to shout;
But talking with my computer friends,
Has turned my life about.

I still do the grocery shopping,
And make a bed or two;
But instead of staring at the television
I spend some time with you.

I go with friends or family,
To dinner or a show;
I take the time to hear my kids,
Or to watch a flower grow.

But yes, you'll find me off and on,
Sitting in my computer chair;
And talking to my cyber friends,
Who always seem to care.

There are redeeming qualities,
And hear me if you will;
Since playing in this cyber world,
I've improved keyboarding skill.

In fact I feel at peace with life,
Things are going well;
The only thing it hasn't done,
Is teach me how to spell!
