Steps of Grief
Bargaining is a part of grief. Blaming ourselves, thinking we should have done more or not done this or that. What could I have done to make it not happen? Second guessing ourselves and God, gets us no where. We think it might not have happened, "if only...!" We feel like we failed, yet in truth, we don't have the power, except through prayer. It is God's choice and He is the only One who knows although I often feel like He should give me a hint, so we both know. The grieving process is getting to that place of accepting, "God's Will" and knowing that sometimes we are as a result of other people's choices, especially if we allow them to dictate our life and actions. Every time there is change, we go through a grieving process, sometimes small, sometimes more hurtful, but when we get to the other side, we can find and feel God's Love and Grace, and know it all wasn't in vain. Recovery, getting clean and sober, takes us through a grieving process. http://www.recover-from-grief.com/7-...-of-grief.html

We forget that we grieve when we stop drinking and drugging. We have lost our best friend that stopped working for us.
For me it was my coping tool, it helped, or so I thought, from my depression, what an illusion. Alcohol is a depressant. We not only grieve the loss of our addiction, but the life that it brought us, the habits, behaviours, and ways of doing, or not doing things. I also found that I hadn't grieved when I was using, so a lot of things had never been grieved, processed and let go of.
