Thumper's Advice
By: Ron Edmondson As Samuel grew up, the Lord was with him, and everything Samuel said was wise and helpful. 1 Samuel 3:19 NCV Lord, help me today to be like Samuel! Do you ever wish you could grab back something you said? You didn't mean it quite the way it came out at the time. You meant to say ..... well...you get the idea. I'll never forget the time I told someone I was still praying for their mother only to hear them tell me she had been dead for over a year. Or the time I criticized the writer of a local column to someone else, not knowing that that person was their favorite nephew. Or when I asked two people to join me in a project, set up a special luncheon with the three of us, and didn't find out until I got there that the two of them do not speak to each other because of a past business association. Oh, if I could just hold my tongue at times! Do you sometimes suffer from "foot-in-mouth" disease? Wouldn't it be great to be like Samuel? Everything we said would be wise and helpful. Throughout our day, we would be a blessing to everyone we encountered. No embarrassing mistakes; no hurt feelings. Only positive, encouraging words to build each other up! Wasn't it Thumper's mom (from Bambi) who said, "If you can't saying something good...." Isn't that what living the Christian life is all about? Isn't that the life we should strive to live? Today, let's be like Samuel! Let every thought and word that comes out of our mouth be wise and helpful! And, let's watch to see what a difference it makes in the lives of those around us!

When I saw the title, I thought of Walt Disney's Thumper. Yet in truth, he has a lesson to tell and one that is best learned and lived.
His foot gets impatient, he gets upset and he wants it now if not sooner. I know I was very much like that, but God and I work on it daily. My tongue was a weapon, and I need to ask for healing to change it from a weapon of destruction to a tool of recovery, putting people back together instead of tearing them apart. I use to say to my husband, "You just took your foot out to make room for the other one." For me it was letting go of the old habits and behaviours, and giving them to my God to heal. Some bunny loves you.
