Default Children of the Light

God's Word For Today

Children of the Light

Read 1 Thessalonians 1:1 through 5:28

You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness (1 Thessalonians 5:5).

God’s children belong to the day. They are not defined by their experiences. Christ defines them. Even if they walk through periods of darkness, these periods do not define them. They are still children of the day.

Darkness can be intimidating until there is light. Children of God can enter any circumstance without fear, knowing that they bring God with them into any situation. Therefore, instead of being overwhelmed by the darkness, they actually bring something positive into the situation. They use their positive influence to impact all that is around them.

Instead of recoiling in fear or reacting in anger, change is affected by the presence of those who belong to the day. Darkness cannot swallow the light, so the children of God will not lose their way as long as they remain true to who they are in Christ. This is done by entertaining bright thoughts as they feed their minds on things that enhance the light of Christ.

Prayer Suggestion: Lord, help me to shine for You today.

Quicklook: 1 Thessalonians 5:1–8
