Serving Without Resentment
Serving Without Resentment
2 Timothy 2:24 “And the Lord’s servant must …be kind…not resentful.” Anger is a normal human response to a real or supposed wrong, yet it need not automatically erupt in uncontrollable rage. Neither is it wise to deny or suppress displeasure, since unresolved anger often turns into resentment. And built-up resentment can rob us of peace with ourselves, others and God. However, there are ways to decrease susceptibility to anger. We can: 1. Make our own choices, taking control of our own time schedule as much as possible. 2. Learn to say “no” as well as “yes.” 3. Stay true to our own beliefs, values, and opinions regardless of those who differ with us. 4. Set and accept reasonable limits. 5. Stop trying to direct what is not ours to direct. 6. Change the misconceptions we have about anger. 7. Ask questions when we do not understand. 8. Respectfully confront the injustice or wrong. 9. Pray and trust God before, during, and after we’ve done all we can do. 10. Remember that only God is flawless and admit that nothing else is absolutely perfect. Lord, my anger rattles me. Help me learn effective ways to handle it before bitterness sets in. I want to serve you and others without resentment. 2008 Joan C. Webb
