Default Forgive Others

FORGIVE OTHERS

We all have our own values, experiences and expectations. When someone doesn’t do what we believe they should do, we sometimes get upset. We sometimes get critical. We sometimes want to blame them for not doing what we think they should do. When we try to get others to do what we want them to do and they don’t or can’t do it, we don’t need to show contempt and judgment. We need to talk with them. We need to better understand them. And rather than blaming or fussing, we need to forgive them.

Matthew 6:14-15 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we want to forgive others rather than get upset with them. We know people don’t always do what we think they should do. But sometimes we don’t have the big picture. Sometimes we don’t have all the facts. Sometimes we don’t take time to find out the reason they did what they did. Help us to take time to talk with others and find out what is going on in their world so we can better understand them and help them. We want to show forgiveness rather than blame. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we take time to talk with others, it will be easier to understand and forgive them.

Having an open mind about people’s past and experiences will help us better know why they do what they do.

Setting expectations too high in others will cause us to resent and get upset with them.

Rather than building a relationship of resentment and hate, build one of love and forgiveness.

If we want to be forgiven by God, we need to forgive others.

Romans 12:17 “Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.” (NLT)

Focus: Forgive those who have done wrong to you and just let it go. Do the right thing and forgive them.
