WHY I CARRY A CHIP

I carry a chip in my pocket a simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I'm always in danger no matter where I may be.
This little chip is not magic, nor is it a good luck charm;
And it isn't meant to protect me from any physical harm.
It's not for identification for all the world to see.
It's simply a timely reminder how vigilant I must be.
When I put my hand in my pocket to bring out a coin or a key,
The chip is there to remind me, how vulnerable I might be.
It reminds me, too, to be thankful for the peace & comfort I share
With all of my fellow members, exchanging our love & care.
So I carry a chip in my pocket, a constant reminder to me
Of the dangers but also the safety in my new life of sobriety.

This took me back. I love the 24 hour a day chip. That is all we have. As my sponsor and spiritual adviser use to say to me, If you woke up before 7 a.m. this morning, you have more sobriety thank I have.

Special ones where from other As who passed their chip onto me. I was also given a piece of amethyst to carry, I was told it was healing and for cleansing and detoxing my body.

The women's group that I belonged to gave out hope stones. If you had a bad week, having a bad day, or just because; you were offered a basket of stones that you could choose for yourself. They were all different colours. The Promises were read, then the hope stones were offered to anyone who wanted one, didn't have to be a group member, then the chips were given out, and then the Serenity Prayer was said, while everyone joined in a circle holding hands at the close of the meeting.
