Default Tenacity

"Tenacity"

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” — II Timothy 2:15 NKJV

What excellent words of wisdom for a young person beginning a career. In simpler terms, what wonderful words of wisdom for a child starting school: "Be diligent. Make God and your parents proud of you and they never need be ashamed of you. Always tell the truth." Whatever age we are, the advice given to young Timothy to be diligent applies, if we want to be our best. Martin Luther King Jr. said, "If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say: 'Here we had a great street sweeper who did his job well."

So many times we begin a task and then when obstacles appear, our enthusiasm wanes. But if we remain diligent, knowing that we have God on our side, we’ll get the job done. We don’t have to make lame excuses, for which we'll later be ashamed. The work will be done well, when we do it in partnership with God. "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." (Colossians 3:17).

When seemingly impossible challenges face you, don't panic! Relax. Take time to look over your problem and don't give up. There is a solution, so pray about it; trust God to guide you to the answers for which you are seeking. They may not be what you are expecting, but God knows best.

Lord, give me the faith and tenacity to keep working and doing the best job possible, even when the going is tough. Amen.

“Prayerful Living”
