Default Whack That Weed!

Whack That Weed!

Read Psalm 104:24-33

Give thanks to the Lord of lords ... who gives food to every creature.
-Psalm 136:3, 25 (NIV)

RECENTLY I was talking to a friend who told me about something she had seen through her window. After a heavy snowstorm, when everything was covered in white, sticking out of one snowbank in her yard was a dried-up weed, and a little bird was hopping all around it. Suddenly the bird stopped, turned its back to the weed, and whacked against it with its tail until some seeds fell to the surface of the snow. Then the bird turned around and began to eat the seeds. We both marveled at the action of this little creature.

Who provided for the bird even in the aftermath of a snowstorm? I knew that it was the bird's Creator and mine, who, according to the psalmist, gives food to every creature. Sustenance is only one of the many evidences of God's enduring love.

The image of this bird reminds me that God is also my provider. God provides the very breath I need to live - to think, to work, to figure things out. As I see how God moves to meet my needs, I marvel at this enduring love.

Naydean Julch (Colorado, USA)
Prayer
O God, our provider, help us to remember to recognize you as the source of our strength and sustenance. Amen.

Thought for the Day
Signs of God's love are all around us in the natural world.

We stay sober and clean together - one day at a time!
God says that each of us is worth loving.
